Platypus Thoughts

Ideas That Come to Mind

Why Platypus?

To be honest, trying to find a name that has not already been taken – on WordPress or any other platform – is unbelievably difficult. I was looking for something that implies that these are my thoughts. And my thoughts are not particularly well informed by deep research (see Heather Cox Richardson) or political savvy (see Robert Reich) or deeply spiritual beliefs (see Richard Rohr).

So in a fit of frustration, I came up with one of the weirdest animals I’ve ever heard of and typed that in. Lo and behold, Platypus Thoughts had not been taken! So instead of starting this blog with my thoughts, I am instead doing some research on the Platypus.

“The platypus is a remarkable mammal found only in Australia … The platypus is a duck-billed, beaver-tailed, otter-footed, egg-laying aquatic creature native to Australia. If its appearance alone somehow fails to impress, the male of the species is also one of the world’s few venomous mammals! Equipped with sharp stingers on the heels of its hind feet, the male platypus can deliver a strong toxic blow to any approaching foe. … The Commonwealth of Australia reveres this remarkable mammal so much that it honors the platypus with a place on its 20-cent coin.” according to NOAA.

Serendipitous though it’s choice may be, the platypus is likely the best emblem I could have chosen. I only wish I had done the research before I named the blog so my writings would appear to have had a more professionally planned start. And also serendipitous, 20 cents may be the worth of my thoughts!

And someday I hope to meet a platypus or three in person, preferably with a barrier between us …

As to the actual thoughts of a platypus, I can only hope that mine do not cause these odd animals any undue scrutiny or persecution. Be kind!
